Hukilau Cafe is a must visit restaurant on the North Shore. Their breakfast is excellent and they offer many different options of delicious food to sample. My wife loves their banana pancakes and they were as good as she remembered them to be. The coconut pancakes were less flavorful, but better than any kind on the mainland. I also got their teriyaki beef plate lunch and the meat was moist and chewy, not hard on the teeth at all. The service is hasty and not the most friendly, but it's because it's a local joint and they are used to regulars coming and dining (not the most tourist friendly).

Hole in the wall, great food, ok service, place is falling apart though. Make sure you get here early as the place is small so it fills up quick. The loco Moco is great, can be ordered in a smaller size for your kiddos. Awesome macadamia nut pancakes.

We Love, Love, Love THE HUKILAU CAFE IN LAIE, O'AHU, HAWAII

This is not the restaurant from the movie, they just took the name. The Hukilau cafe didn't exist before the movie. Disappointed that they use Styrofoam plates, which is bad for the environment, and plastic forks. My plastic fork broke and I wasn't given another one. We sat where we could see the kitchen and saw that they were serving food from Costco, and reheating it. They were using Krusteaz pancake mix. I could make that at home and not pay $10 for a pancake on a Styrofoam plate. There is no other place for breakfast in the immediate area, but I think it's worth a drive further south to have a better meal, like at the Koa Pancake House. Or skip breakfast and eat lunch at any of the amazing eateries nearby, like North Shore Tacos, Yum!

Local ALOHA served there, great food, great service....Always a good experience...

5 stars for the service & food! We showed up at 11:15 thinking they closed at 2... and they close at 1130 on Saturdays, take out only after 11:30. They were incredibly kind. I had the beef stew eggs & tried the moco loco, both were great!
