We book the Chinaman's Hat Tour for September 7, 2017 at 9am. We wanted to get there early to beat the heat. The directions to the meeting place were very clear and easy to get to. We were warmly greeted by Tru and Jake, who were our guides. They were AMAZING! With a little instruction and safety briefing, we were well on our way kayaking to Chinaman's Hat.
After we soaked in all the scenery and took a boatload of pictures, we started to scale back down the side of the island, back to our kayaks. Tru and I joked there should be a water slide at the top, but we did slide a bit on the dirt trail down, haha. Once we safety climbed down, we kayaked back. We saw more Sea Turtles again! They may have been the same ones from before, but we were just happy to see them. Good news is none of us tipped over on the way back.
The tide was low, and some of us tipped over a few times, lol. Tru and Jake were very helpful and encouraging. They helped us make it through in one piece. The best part of the kayak was seeing two Sea Turtles along our journey to Chinaman's Hat. It was an awesome sight to see. The Sea Turtles we're "hugging" each other, so we thought it best to let them be.
We had a great time kayaking and learning to surf! Where we kayaked was so beautiful! Both guys were very friendly and informative. Like it says in the description it is really individualized. They were flexible with us regarding start time and planned the kayaking and surfing around our experience level and interest. My husband and I both got up quickly while surfing and had a lot of fun! Mike even took pictures of us kayaking and sent them to me when we got back without charging me extra (most places seem to always charge you more money for pictures).
No better place to kayak, stand up paddle board, or surf. The guides are super friendly and always cater to your plans. No huge groups in crowded busses or beaches just private one on one attention from genuine people. Some of the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen, everything looks like it's from the national geographic channel from the hikes to the ocean activities. We saw turtles and surfed the perfect size waves for our experience level. Definitely highly recommend them for anything, and they rent equipment and drop it off at your vacation rental or whatever beach you want.
When we got to shore, Tru was kind enough to take a few last group pictures of us with Chinaman's Hat in the background. We thanked them for the tour and were very grateful they were with us. Tru and Jake were very professional, knowledgeable, encouraging, and so much fun to be around. I would definitely book with them again!
I rented surf boards from Active Oahu Tours this last week and it was so fun! The staff was super friendly and equipment was perfect for our skill level. They took us to a beautiful beginner/intermediate surf spot and we all had a great time. I definitely recommend them and I am planning on using them my next trip to Hawaii!
Our group rented 4 tandem kayaks. Mike was kind enough to have them delivered to the beach. He was extremely accommodating, friendly, and knowledgeable. Mike kept in touch with us via text in order to make sure we would know the exact time of delivery, and was flexible when we decided to change our pick-up time somewhat last minute. He gave great instructions and a demonstration on how to put together and use the kayaks. The online rental service was easy to use. I would definitely recommend Active Oahu Tours for anyone looking for a fun outdoor adventure while visiting the island!
Once we landed on the island, Tru told us the Legend of Mokoli'i, or as we know it, Chinaman's Hat. It was great to learn of the island's story and more of the Hawai'ian culture. After storytime with Tru, we started our hike to the top of the island. We opted to chose the easier path, verses the local path. It was still a challenging hike to say the least. But once we reached the top, it was all worth it. We spent quite a bit of time up there, taking pictures and enjoying the beautiful scenery. It was breathtaking! The weather was still cool and we were relaxing in a nice breeze at the top.
